Alcott HR, a leading provider of human resources (HR) outsourcing solutions with offices in Farmingdale, Manhattan and Buffalo, announced Adelphi University student Eileen Donlon as the recipient of the 2017 Alcott HR Anniversary Scholarship Award. The scholarship is awarded annually to an Adelphi University student majoring in HR. Louis Basso, an alumnus of Adelphi and Alcott HR’s co-founder, President/CEO presented the award and a $3,000 scholarship check to Eileen at a ceremony held at the university on May 9, 2017. Eileen, a resident of Wantagh, NY, is a senior majoring in Business Management with an HR specialization. She will be graduating in December 2017 and plans to pursue a career in HR as a Human Resources Manager or a CHRO for a large company.
In announcing the 2017 scholarship winner, Alcott HR President Louis Basso noted the special significance of this year’s award. “This year marks Alcott HR’s 30th anniversary. Therefore, it is especially gratifying to see so many enthusiastic, high performing students pursuing a career in HR. We are proud to name Eileen Donlon the tenth Adelphi student to receive an Alcott HR scholarship based on her strong academic record, as well as her direct involvement in HR activities.”
In the fall of 2016, Eileen was elected President of the HR Society, the Society of Human Resource Management, Long Island (SHRM-LI) Student Chapter at Adelphi. Since then, she has organized guest speakers from companies such as Northwell Health and Altice USA to present to the HR Society Board, members and faculty. Her other activities include the planning of a workshop for students to learn about data analytics from an HRMS analyst who is an Adelphi alumnus, and volunteering at the SHRM-LI conference.
For her internship, Eileen has been serving in the HR department of Marcum LLP, a leading CPA firm. There, she has been gaining valuable experience in such HR operations as open enrollment, the application of HRIS software, I-9 filings and HIPAA restricted documents.
In addition to receiving the Alcott HR Scholarship, Eileen’s academic performance has been rewarded with an Adelphi University Presidential Scholarship, and induction into Beta Gamma Sigma, the highest national recognition a student in business can received at a school accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. She was also inducted as one of the top 10% of students in the Robert B. Willumstad School of Business Senior Class.
